Question: What exactly is Affiliate Marketing?
Answer: Internet Marketing is the process of promoting another person’s product or service on the internet. An “affiliate” is any person who promotes another person’s product with the hope of leading customers to buy that product, and in return for this the affiliate gets paid a commission. This is why internet marketing is seen as so easy, because affiliates can make money on the internet without having to even own the product they are helping to sell.
Question: How do internet marketers get paid?
Answer: When a customer buys a product or service on the internet, the owner of that product or service tracks how exactly the customer arrived at their webpage. If the product or service owner has an “affiliate program” in place, then they provide each of their affiliates a special link that has a different tracking code from the other affiliates’ links. For example, if a customer clicks on an Internet Marketer X’s link, this will tell the product owner that Internet Marketer X is responsible for helping make this sale and therefore will pay Internet Marketer X a commission. The specific amount of this commission varies from person to person, but many of the best affiliate programs offer up to 75% commissions on their products. That is, if a product sells for $1000 and the affiliate program offers a 75% commission on that product, an internet marketer will make a massive $750 each time somebody clicks on their affiliate link and makes a purchase.
Question: How much does it cost to begin internet marketing?
Answer: While some internet marketing techniques require marketers to pay some low advertising costs, many techniques are entirely free to implement, and we will introduce these in the next question of this affiliate marketing FAQ. However, there is a lot of information to learn in order to become successful at internet marketing. Answer: You do NOT need to have a website or even have above average internet skills to make a substantial amount of money via internet marketing. Additionally, as was mentioned above, you can employ many techniques for free. Some popular techniques include writing articles that promote products on free websites such as EzineArticles and Squidoo or promoting products on blogs or social networking sites like Facebook or MySpace. There are also other advanced techniques that generally make more money but often require you to design a website. You can learn all these skills and techniques at internet marketing training sites.
Question: How much money can I make and how much time do I have to put into affiliate marketing?
Answer: Of course this varies for everybody, but there are many, many people making full time incomes through internet marketing, and many of these are making millions of dollars every year.
