The Danger of Not Knowing Google AdSense Rules

One of the biggest mistakes made by AdSense beginners is not knowing enough about Google AdSense rules. Some AdSense beginners excited and immersed in the prospect of building a money making site often ignore AdSense rules, only to find that their website is not accepted by Google because it breaks some aspect of their rules.

There’s so much in the web about how simple and easy AdSense is that people often forget that what makes AdSense so good is the rules that prop it up. Over time it has become a robust and stable service that gives every website publisher potential earning power.

Before embarking on an AdSense project, it is essential that you have a good understanding of the rules. AdSense rules in essence can be condensed into two essential areas; rules about unacceptable websites and/or content and rules about acceptable actions and behaviours of AdSense publishers.

Google AdSense rules about unacceptable websites basically discusses the types of content that are not allowed to be used in conjunction with their ads. For instance AdSense ads cannot be used on gambling or porn sites.

The rules about publisher behaviour details rules about acceptable click behaviour and issues relating to invalid clicks. It says that publishers are not permitted to encourage users to click on Google AdSense ads in any way. Even subtle, ‘clever’ methods are not acceptable. So you can’t for example, create a navigation system that blends into an ad link unit, so that your visitors can’t tell the two apart. They might click on your ads by mistake, hence it would be an invalid click. The same rule applies to images. They can’t be placed in a manner that either deceives the visitor or encourages the visitor to click the AdSense ads.

Breaking rules that pertain to unacceptable behaviour will get you banned and once you’re out… you’re out. And in many instances there’s no getting back in.

Breaking AdSense rules relating to types of content that is acceptable often stops you from getting accepted into the scheme on the first place. But it can also get you banned if you happen to place AdSense ads on unacceptable sites subsequent to been accepted.

So you can see it is essential to know the rules before beginning a website. But it is also important to have an understanding of the rules while putting your site together and be vigilant of not breaking them after the website is launched.

As a beginner, you cannot make the assumption that you ‘know’ the rules already. Even AdSense veterans, don’t know all the rules because the rules change over time. New schemes are introduced and new ways to police and control the use of AdSense are devised. These changes are an essential part of any growing and developing organization, therefore to ensure you don’t fall foul of Google AdSense make sure you are up to date with Google AdSense rules.
